"The variations in the total irradiance over a solar cycle is only 0.1%, a number that is often used to argue that the Sun cannot explain the recent global warming. However, one should point out that it is the long-term variations in the solar irradiance that is important. The latter number is estimated to have increased by 0.25-0.6% during the last 200 years."

The CD-Rom is the product of SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) mission, a joint project between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). The SOHO spacecraft was launched on December 2, 1995 to study the Sun from its deep core to the outer corona and the solar wind.

The SOHO educational continues:

"The Sun may influence the Earth's climate in several different ways which can be categorized as follows: Variations in total energy output Variations in the UV and EUV emission Variations in the solar wind and magnetic field.

"Many climatologists believe that carbon dioxide, added to the air by human activity, is warming the Earth. Controversially, some solar-terrestrial physicists argue that the Sun can explain much of the global warming. A good correlation between the global temperature and the length of sunspot cycles suggest there is a connection."

The theory of Danish physicistand others that variations in cosmic ray input are the primary driver of climate change is given good treatment: "One possible linkage to global climate is the Sun's influence over the local flux of galactic cosmic rays (GCR); as the solar magnetic field gets stronger, fewer cosmic rays are able to penetrate through to the inner solar system and Earth. And because the GCR are the biggest ionizer of air molecules in the lower atmosphere, they might play a role in processes like cloud formation."

One cautionary note: The entire discussion on the CD is couched in terms of Newtonian mechanics. The introductory animation even includes an image which has just recently been proven incorrect by NASA's Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) satellite--that of a solar flare shooting up as though it was some kind of lava geyser, and not the highly structured, harmonically organized electromagnetic phenomena of thethat Kepler knew it to be.

Those errors are in the process of being corrected by the work of LaRouche Youth Movement on reviving the spirit of Kepler, () but in the meanwhile, the collected facts on the free CD do destroy any idea of a scientific "consensus" on the subject of global warming, along with going a long way toward exposing the idiocy of supposing that the Earth's climate operates in any respect as a closed thermodynamic system, outside of the complete control of our creative Sun, and universe as a whole. There is no human-caused global warming!

The interactive educational video ("Best of SOHO CD-ROM,"), produced in 2003, can be ordered or downloaded for free from the web page ().
